Questions for Jack.
About Jack Wax, and how to care for your piece...
What is Jack Wax? +
Jack Wax is our own line of wood care products. These are the blends we use in our shop and for our own boards at home, available to you! They are clean, simple, food-safe mixes of oils and waxes... anchored around 100% US-sourced Beeswax.
Is Jack Wax food-safe? +
Absolutely. All Jack Wax products use food-grade ingredients — beeswax, mineral oil, and MCT coconut oil. Completely safe for cutting boards, serving boards, salad bowls, and wooden utensils.
Which Jack Wax product should I use? +
If your board is in good shape and you just want to maintain it, Rapid Rub is your pick. For new boards or dry/damaged boards that need restoration, or for heavy-duty/daily users, use the two-step system: Timber Tonic (oil), then Stiff Shine (wax). Our Jack Pack includes both.
How often should I apply Rapid Rub? +
Every few weeks, after about ~6-10 uses, or when the board starts looking a little dry. Whichever comes first. Jack Wax Rapid Rub is a single step to keep typical cutting board users (a few meals per week) with a nice, well-maintained board that will last for the long haul.
How do I apply Rapid Rub? +
Scoop a small amount with your fingers or a cloth, rub it across the entire surface using circular motions. Let it sit for a minute or two, then buff with a clean dry cloth.
I use my board daily, how do I keep it oiled? +
Daily or heavy duty usage involves a lot of cleaning and drying, which dries the oil layer more quickly and frequently. To keep your board oiled, first apply Jack Wax Timber Tonic. Once the oil absorbs, apply & buff on a layer of Stiff Shine to protect the board. Treat frequently as needed.
Can I use it on items besides cutting boards? +
Yes — Jack Wax works beautifully on any kitchen wood: charcuterie boards, serving boards, salad bowls, wooden spoons, and utensils. If it's wood and it touches food, Jack's got you covered.
How should I clean my cutting board? +
Hand wash with mild soap and warm water, then dry with a clean towel. Never soak your board or put it in the dishwasher. Regular Jack Wax applications help maintain the protective barrier.
How should I store my board? +
If your board doesn't have feet, store it standing on edge so both faces get air circulation — this keeps it flat and stable. Boards with feet can be stored flat. Avoid wet countertops or anywhere moisture can sit against the wood.
How to apply Rapid Rub
Quick, easy, and done in under 5 minutes.
Scoop & spread
With clean, dry hands or a soft cloth, scoop a generous amount from the tin. Rub it across the entire surface of your board using firm, circular motions. Make sure to get the edges and sides too.
Let it sit
Give the wax a minute or two to penetrate the wood grain. The blend will soften and absorb into the surface, nourishing the wood fibers from within.
1–2 minutesBuff to a shine
Using a clean, dry cloth, buff the surface with moderate pressure until the board feels smooth and has a subtle, even sheen. Your board is now protected and looking great.
