Distinctive boards from a single log
One-of-a-kind boards from a single plank of hardwood, arranged in cascading slices to show off the character of that one piece of lumber.
These one-of-a-kind pieces highlight the beauty locked within a single plank of hardwood lumber. For these unique boards, we seek out the widest pieces of lumber we can find, and select the most visually-interesting wood from there. We then arrange them in single slices back-to-back, each one in a unique cascading fashion to highlight the character we see in the lumber. The result is a distinctive look with unique subtleties in every one-of-a-kind board in this series.
End Grain
At Wooded, we make cutting boards one way: end-grain.
At Wooded, we make cutting boards one way: end-grain. The wood is oriented like the top of a stump, with the cut ends of the fibers facing up. That grain absorbs the shock of sharp blades, so knives stay sharper, the surface resists gouges, and chopping is easier on your wrist. It also shows a side of wood grain you'll rarely see anywhere else. It's more costly and labor-intensive, but we believe it's worth it every time.

A staple in butcher block cutting boards, and the anchor of our portfolio at Wooded.
A staple in butcher block cutting boards, and the anchor of our portfolio at Wooded. Walnut is slightly less dense than Maple, which gives it a lighter weight and a softer feel under a knife, while still being very durable and suitable for virtually all sorts of cooks. Each piece varies widely in character, with different shades of color, flows of grain, and figuring. Its dark heartwood contrasts with rather light, nearly Maple-colored sapwood, and playing with that contrast is one of our favorite ways to create one-of-a-kind boards. Over time, Walnut tends to mellow, with the deepest browns warming toward amber, especially where a board catches sunlight.

The Wooded Difference
At Wooded Carving Co., we set out to merge art and utility, all in a staple kitchen tool.
We build premium butcher-block boards, but differently. Rather than standard plans or mass production, we arrange boards individually, inspired by the unique grain and color of the hardwood they're built from. And since they're all unique, we name and photograph each one, so you can see exactly the board you're getting, and take home a piece that is distinctly yours.
Wooded boards are not only visually distinct, but also crafted to stout, old-fashioned, heirloom standards. We build only one type of cutting board: thick, end-grain boards from high-quality hardwood, built for decades of service. And we build them from scratch at our workshop on Cape Cod.
Every board's grain is one of a kind. We hand-pick striking hardwood and arrange its natural grain into a board inspired by nature's contrasts.
Each of our boards has a distinctive character, so we give each one a name and a proper photoshoot so you can see exactly the one you're getting.
Our individually-crafted pieces are available right away. Skip the wait, and get a board that's uniquely yours... shipped quickly at no cost.
We build tough boards the hard way: thicker, with larger lumber and fewer joints. Well cared-for, they'll last decades, or even generations.
