Cherry Walnut Lattice

$275.00

Cherry and walnut hardwoods come together in a bold lattice pattern that’s equal parts showpiece and workhorse. The alternating tones create crisp contrast—warm cherry glow against deep walnut richness—so the design reads clean from across the kitchen and gets even better up close as the grain catches the light.

Built end grain, this board is made for the long game. With the wood fibers standing upright, your knife edge slips between them with a little natural “give,” which helps keep blades happier over time. That same structure is prized for durability because it can bounce back from everyday cuts, keeping the surface looking better through years of real use. In short: it’s tough, steady under the knife, and designed to age beautifully.

Finished with our food-safe oil/wax blend and crafted to last, it’s ready for daily chopping, slicing, and carving—and polished enough to go straight from prep station to centerpiece when it’s time to serve.

End Grain

At Wooded, we make cutting boards one way: end-grain.

At Wooded, we make cutting boards one way: end-grain. The wood is oriented like the top of a stump, with the cut ends of the fibers facing up. That grain absorbs the shock of sharp blades, so knives stay sharper, the surface resists gouges, and chopping is easier on your wrist. It also shows a side of wood grain you'll rarely see anywhere else. It's more costly and labor-intensive, but we believe it's worth it every time.

Walnut

A staple in butcher block cutting boards, and the anchor of our portfolio at Wooded.

A staple in butcher block cutting boards, and the anchor of our portfolio at Wooded. Walnut is slightly less dense than Maple, which gives it a lighter weight and a softer feel under a knife, while still being very durable and suitable for virtually all sorts of cooks. Each piece varies widely in character, with different shades of color, flows of grain, and figuring. Its dark heartwood contrasts with rather light, nearly Maple-colored sapwood, and playing with that contrast is one of our favorite ways to create one-of-a-kind boards. Over time, Walnut tends to mellow, with the deepest browns warming toward amber, especially where a board catches sunlight.

Cherry

The chameleon of hardwoods.

The chameleon of hardwoods. American cherry starts with warm pinkish-brown tones and deepens to a rich reddish-amber over time as it's exposed to light. This natural aging process means your board literally gets more beautiful the longer you own it.

The Wooded Difference

At Wooded Carving Co., we set out to merge art and utility, all in a staple kitchen tool.

We build premium butcher-block boards, but differently. Rather than standard plans or mass production, we arrange boards individually, inspired by the unique grain and color of the hardwood they're built from. And since they're all unique, we name and photograph each one, so you can see exactly the board you're getting, and take home a piece that is distinctly yours.

Wooded boards are not only visually distinct, but also crafted to stout, old-fashioned, heirloom standards. We build only one type of cutting board: thick, end-grain boards from high-quality hardwood, built for decades of service. And we build them from scratch at our workshop on Cape Cod.

Inspired by natureDesigns inspired by nature

Every board's grain is one of a kind. We hand-pick striking hardwood and arrange its natural grain into a board inspired by nature's contrasts.

Built to lastHeirloom quality

We build tough boards the hard way: thicker, with larger lumber and fewer joints. Well cared-for, they'll last decades, or even generations.

"I've been using it for a few weeks now and it's amazing. The finish is impeccable, and cutting on it is like driving a Ferrari. When it was brand new I had some people over — they felt the surface and were like, 'what the hell, I didn't know wood could be like this.' I've had a Boos block before and other nice cutting boards, but yours is exceptional."

About Our Boards
What makes end-grain cutting boards different? +
End-grain boards expose the cut ends of wood fibers on the cutting surface. Your knife slips between fibers instead of slicing across them — so the board is gentler on blades and self-heals minor cut marks over time. Compare that to long-grain boards (also called edge-grain, face-grain, or flat-grain), where your knife cuts across the fibers — dulling blades faster and leaving permanent score marks.
What wood species do you use? +
We work primarily with hard maple, walnut, and cherry — dense, closed-grain hardwoods that are food-safe, durable, and beautiful. We also work with rarer species like hickory and exotics like Padauk and Canarywood for boards that call for something bolder. Each species is chosen for its density, stability, and how it plays with the pattern design.
Are the boards really one-of-a-kind? +
Yes. We arrange our pieces to expand upon nature's art in wood: grain patterns. Those patterns, and accompanying visual contrasts vary from tree-to-tree. So each board is a little (or a lot!) different from another. Each one is named as we work with it, and get to feel its character. As a result - you get a board that's unique, named, ready-to-ship and exactly as pictured.
Why are your boards so thick? +
We build boards thick for a few reasons, the key one being resistance to warping and cracking. A thicker board resists these related forces that destroy boards as they adjust to varying moisture levels over time. For most cutting board sizes, we like 2 inches of thickness, plus or minus a quarter of an inch. We occasionally build 2.5" boards as well, which offer an additional level of heft and stability. The tradeoff for thick boards is, of course, weight. Most of our boards range from 8–20 lbs.
Can I add a custom engraving? +
Yes! For a small upcharge, we can laser-engrave a name, date, or short message along the edge of your board. Type your text, preview it, and choose from a few fonts right on the product page.
Do your boards have juice grooves? +
Some boards include them — check the product details. Want one on a board of your own? A commission can include it — just say so in the form.
Ordering & Shipping
How fast does it ship? +
Single-Edition boards are in stock and ready to go. We typically ship within 2–3 business days — often within 24 hours. New England customers usually see delivery in 2–3 days from shipment.
What are my shipping options? +
Free ground shipping on all cutting boards within the US, via UPS, USPS, or FedEx. Upgraded shipping options are available at checkout.
Can I request a custom board? +
Yes! That's what commissions are for. Contact us via the Commission form (linked in Home & Boards pages), or call/e-mail us via the Service Page and we'll help you get a custom board designed and quoted.
Care & Maintenance
What finish do you use? Is it food-safe? +
We formulate our own blend of wax & oil compounds, Jack Wax. Every Wooded cutting board is treated with a heated coat Timber Tonic oil, and two coats of wax. All of these formulations are simple, food-safe mixes of beeswax, coconut oil and food-grade mineral oil. If you have a special finishing request, feel free to contact us via the Service page.
How do I care for my cutting board? +
Rinse with water and a mild soap or vinegar-based detergent after use — never put it in the dishwasher. Store it upright so air circulates on both sides. For occasional cooks, a coat & buff of Jack Wax Rapid Rub (or equivalent cutting board wax compound) will keep your board fresh and protected. For heavy duty chefs, we recommend oiling first, then waxing (see our Jack Pack).
Can I refinish or repair my board? +
Absolutely. Minor scratches and knife marks can be sanded out with fine-grit sandpaper. Then re-oil to hydrate the wood and re-wax to seal the surface. Our Jack Pack has everything you need to hydrate your sanded board and liven & protect it with wax!
Returns & Warranty
What is your return policy? +
We don’t accept returns on non-defective boards — each one is a one-of-a-kind piece and a food-contact surface that we cannot typically resell. We stand behind our craftsmanship with a 90-day warranty covering defects like cracking or warping. We are a small business who deeply values our customers, so if you're having issues with our boards at any time, please reach out and we'll do our best to help.
