Canary Sunset

Picture a slice of golden hour captured in wood—that’s Canary Sunset. Crafted from luminous canarywood and bold padauk, this end-grain board brings warm, sunset-level contrast to your kitchen—bright honey tones, deep ember reds, and that “wait…what wood is that?” kind of visual drama.
But it’s not just here to look pretty. End grain is the secret behind the performance: the wood fibers welcome your blade in, then spring back, which means less wear on your knife edge and a surface that’s built for the long haul.
And when guests show up? Canary Sunset pulls double duty. It’s a show-stopping serving board for cheeses, fruit, and appetizers—basically a centerpiece that happens to be useful. The kind of piece that makes people wonder if you’re actually making dinner…or just casually staging a food magazine shoot.

End Grain
At Wooded, we make cutting boards one way: end-grain.
At Wooded, we make cutting boards one way: end-grain. The wood is oriented like the top of a stump, with the cut ends of the fibers facing up. That grain absorbs the shock of sharp blades, so knives stay sharper, the surface resists gouges, and chopping is easier on your wrist. It also shows a side of wood grain you'll rarely see anywhere else. It's more costly and labor-intensive, but we believe it's worth it every time.

Canarywood is one of the rare exotic hardwoods we use on occasion. It is visually stunning, particularly in its end-grain, for the amount of contrast within a single piece, with colors running the gamut of hardwood colors: from reds, to browns and even occasional purple-ish hues. It is also in the sweet spot for hardness and other characteristics that make it good for use in end-grain cutting boards.

This vivid and red-hued exotic hardwood is native to Africa, and featured occasionally in special releases. Padauk has a bright red hue, leaning nearly orange, when it's freshly cut and worked. Over time, it ages to a darker, deep-red color.

At Wooded Carving Co., we set out to merge art and utility, all in a staple kitchen tool.
We build premium butcher-block boards, but differently. Rather than standard plans or mass production, we arrange boards individually, inspired by the unique grain and color of the hardwood they're built from. And since they're all unique, we name and photograph each one, so you can see exactly the board you're getting, and take home a piece that is distinctly yours.
Wooded boards are not only visually distinct, but also crafted to stout, old-fashioned, heirloom standards. We build only one type of cutting board: thick, end-grain boards from high-quality hardwood, built for decades of service. And we build them from scratch at our workshop on Cape Cod.
Every board's grain is one of a kind. We hand-pick striking hardwood and arrange its natural grain into a board inspired by nature's contrasts.
Each of our boards has a distinctive character, so we give each one a name and a proper photoshoot so you can see exactly the one you're getting.
Our individually-crafted pieces are available right away. Skip the wait, and get a board that's uniquely yours... shipped quickly at no cost.
We build tough boards the hard way: thicker, with larger lumber and fewer joints. Well cared-for, they'll last decades, or even generations.
