I just received the board and it looks absolutely AMAZING! I can't believe how solid and smooth the board is.

We hand-pick the best hardwood planks—stable, clean, and full of character. Back at the shop they acclimate for a bit to stabilize.
We sort through the good wood, flatten it, and cut planks into clean sections. Here, we spot grain patterns and start imagining the final board.
Cut pieces are arranged for contrast and flow, then glued and clamped into the first (long-grain) "panel".
The panel gets sliced crosswise and flipped so the end grain faces up — unlocking the durability and knife-friendliness end-grain boards are known for.
Now the pattern comes alive. We lay out the end-grain mosaic, glue it again, and clamp it into its final shape. For some boards, this dance repeats.
We flatten the board, round the sharp edges, and add practical details—juice grooves, handles, whatever the board calls for.
Six to eight passes of sanding on all surfaces and edges of the board to get it perfectly flat, smooth and free of man-made imperfections.
After thorough quality-checks and optional laser engravings, boards are hydrated with warmed oil, then sealed with multiple coats of our Jack Wax compounds to leave a shiny, water-resistant surface.
End-grain boards expose the cut ends of wood fibers on the cutting surface. Your knife slips between fibers instead of slicing across them — so the board is gentler on blades and self-heals minor cut marks over time. Compare that to long-grain boards (also called edge-grain, face-grain, or flat-grain), where your knife cuts across the fibers — dulling blades faster and leaving permanent score marks. Learn more about grain orientation.
We work primarily with hard maple, walnut, and cherry — dense, closed-grain hardwoods that are food-safe, durable, and beautiful. We also work with rarer species like hickory and exotics like padauk and canarywood for boards that call for something bolder. Each species is chosen for its density, stability, and how it plays with the pattern design.
Yes. Every Wooded Studio board is a single edition — the board in the photos is exactly the one you'll receive. When it sells, it's gone for good.
Thickness prevents warping — we follow our Rule of 8 Inches, where a board's thickness should be at least one-eighth of its width. That mass gives you a stable, solid surface that won't slide around while you work. It also means the board can be sanded and refinished multiple times over decades of use. More on why thickness matters.
Yes! For a small upcharge, we can laser-engrave a name, date, or short message along the edge of your board. Type your text, preview it, and choose from a few fonts right on the product page.
Some Studio boards include them — check the product details. If you want a juice groove on your board, our Wooded Designs lineup offers it as a build option.
Every board gets our Jack Wax two-step: warmed Timber Tonic to deeply hydrate the wood, then multiple coats of our wax compounds to seal it. Both are made with food-grade mineral oil, coconut oil, and beeswax — our finishing wax adds a touch of natural carnauba for extra sheen. No polyurethane, no synthetics, nothing you wouldn't want near your food. More about Jack Wax.
Rinse with water and a mild soap or vinegar-based detergent after use — never put it in the dishwasher. Store it upright so air circulates on both sides. Re-oil with mineral oil or Jack Wax every few weeks (or whenever the wood looks dry). With basic care, your board will last a lifetime. Full care guide.
Absolutely. Minor scratches and knife marks can be sanded out with fine-grit sandpaper. Then re-oil to hydrate the wood and re-wax to seal the surface. Our Jack Pack has everything you need for a refresh.
Studio boards are in stock and ready to go. We typically ship within 2–3 business days — often within 24 hours. New England customers usually see delivery in 2–3 days from shipment.
