Commission questions
How much does a commissioned board cost?
We will provide a custom price for your project. You can get a rough idea of our general pricing in our Single-Edition Boards collection. Custom builds will vary primarily based on size, and also the wood species and options you select.
How long does a custom build take?
Depending on the piece and our production schedule, we will provide a projected timeline. For most boards, it will range from 3–6 weeks to completion.
How will I pay for the board?
We use a professional payment system that accepts all credit cards, Apple / Google pay and more! Once we finish the board design, we'll send an invoice for the quoted price via an email or SMS link. Once you submit payment for the invoice, we'll begin the build process!
What if I don't know exactly what I want?
Our best advice would be to think about (and measure if possible) the kitchen environment for the board, and how large of a piece you prefer, in both surface area and weight. For aesthetics, we recommend checking current & past work and see what styling stands out to you.
What sizes can you build?
At present, we can build boards as small as ~8x12" and as large as ~24x24". If in doubt or on the border line, reach out and we'll see what we can do!
Do you make circular or custom shaped boards?
Not at this time. We build square or rectangular boards.
Can you engrave it?
Yes — we offer engraving on the edge (right corner) of any board. We can accommodate engravings up to ~20 characters. This will add a small cost of around $20 to your price.
How thick should I build my board?
It is a balance between weight and durability. At Wooded, we prioritize durability and will generally not build boards thinner than 1.75". For boards larger than 12" in any dimension (most boards) we recommend 2-2.5". We will make a recommendation based on the surface area of your board upon contact.
Do you make edge grain boards?
At this time, we do not. We specialize in end grain butcher block cutting boards. We believe in doing one thing, and doing it well.
Customization Options
Below are the options & customizations we can apply to your custom board. For more information, contact us or fill out the form above!
Size
~8 × 12" to ~24 × 24"
We build square or rectangular boards. If your size is on the borderline, reach out and we'll see what we can do.
Thickness
1.75" minimum
We prioritize durability and generally won't build thinner than 1.75". For boards larger than 12" in any dimension (most boards) we recommend 2–2.5".
Wood species
Walnut, Maple or Cherry
Our three staples. We can use other varieties of wood upon request (given they are suitable for cutting boards). Most of our designs focus on highlighting the beauty of a single species, or mix of two species.
Handles
For smaller boards at 2" or thinner, we recommend end cutouts. They are shallow (~1" deep) smooth grooves make extra thick for fingers of all sizes, to grab a board quickly and maintain the full surface area top & bottom.
Scooped Edges are recommended for larger boards, and any board above 2" thick. They allow full-hand grip around the bottom of the board that makes lifting a heavier board much easier.
Juice groove
A juice groove is a channel that is routed into the cutting surface of the board. This is useful if your primarily use is cutting large volumes of meat or juice-laden produce. For most situations, especially smaller boards, we do not recommend juice grooves. If you do opt to include one, it will add a small (~$30) cost to your custom board.
Feet
Feet lift the board off the counter to avoid contact with wet surfaces and liquid absorption that induces warping. We use rubber feet that provide traction and shock absorption on hard countertops. We recommend feet on all boards for an optimal experience and offer them at no cost. We can leave them off upon request, however.
Engraving
We can engrave the corner of your board with a custom engraving. We can accomodate up to ~20 characters or so. Perfect for a quick message, greeting, name, initials or other personal touch. Engraving will add a small (~$20) cost to your custom board.
