One of our favorite patterns we've done in the past we've called the "Racer"; with this intriguing pattern that evokes two racing stripes. In the case of this board, we picture the stripes running down the very long hood of a bold muscle car! This board is a big one; one of the largest we've made so far with an 18x24" cutting surface. Both the Walnut and Maple selections here feature vibrant contrasts, but with deep, uniform coloring... creating a spectacular contrast that we can't keep our eyes off of!

End Grain

The gold standard for serious cutting boards. End-grain construction exposes the cut ends of wood fibers on the cutting surface—imagine a bundle of straws standing upright. Your knife slips between the fibers instead of slicing across them, which is gentler on your blade and allows the wood to "self-heal" minor cut marks.

This orientation also makes the board naturally antimicrobial: bacteria get pulled down into the fibers (away from your food) where they can't survive without moisture. End-grain boards are more durable, more stable, and more forgiving than any other construction method.

The trade-off? They take about three times longer to build. Every Wooded cutting board uses end-grain construction because we think it's worth it—and we think you will too.

Walnut

Rich, warm, and undeniably elegant. American black walnut brings deep chocolate browns and purples to the cutting surface, with natural variation that ranges from creamy sapwood to nearly black heartwood. It's a closed-grain hardwood that's naturally resistant to bacteria—and looks incredible doing it.

Walnut is softer than maple but still plenty durable for daily cutting. Its real magic is in the color: those deep tones develop even more character over time as the wood ages and the oil finish brings out the grain.

Maple

The workhorse of professional kitchens. Hard maple (also called sugar maple or rock maple) is one of the hardest domestic hardwoods, with a tight, closed grain that resists bacteria and moisture. Its pale, creamy color brightens any kitchen and provides stunning contrast when paired with darker species.

Maple's density makes it exceptionally durable—it's the same wood used for bowling alleys and basketball courts. The subtle grain pattern lets the end-grain mosaic take center stage, while the wood itself quietly does its job for decades.

About Our Boards
What makes end-grain cutting boards different? +
End-grain boards expose the cut ends of wood fibers on the cutting surface. Your knife slips between fibers instead of slicing across them — so the board is gentler on blades and self-heals minor cut marks over time. Compare that to long-grain boards (also called edge-grain, face-grain, or flat-grain), where your knife cuts across the fibers — dulling blades faster and leaving permanent score marks.
What wood species do you use? +
We work primarily with hard maple, walnut, and cherry — dense, closed-grain hardwoods that are food-safe, durable, and beautiful. We also work with rarer species like hickory and exotics like Padauk and Canarywood for boards that call for something bolder. Each species is chosen for its density, stability, and how it plays with the pattern design.
Are the boards really one-of-a-kind? +
Yes. We arrange our pieces to expand upon nature's art in wood: grain patterns. Those patterns, and accompanying visual contrasts vary from tree-to-tree. So each board is a little (or a lot!) different from another. Each one is named as we work with it, and get to feel its character. As a result - you get a board that's unique, named, ready-to-ship and exactly as pictured.
Why are your boards so thick? +
Thickness prevents warping — we follow our Rule of 8 Inches. For rectangular boards (our dominant shape)... for every 8 inches of width, we recommend 1 inch of thickness. That mass gives you a stable, solid surface that won’t slide around while you work. It also means the board can be sanded and re-finished multiple times over decades of use.
Can I add a custom engraving? +
Yes! For a small upcharge, we can laser-engrave a name, date, or short message along the edge of your board. Type your text, preview it, and choose from a few fonts right on the product page.
Do your boards have juice grooves? +
Some boards include them — check the product details. Want one on a board of your own? A commission can include it — just say so in the form.

How fast does it ship? +
Single-Edition boards are in stock and ready to go. We typically ship within 2–3 business days — often within 24 hours. New England customers usually see delivery in 2–3 days from shipment.
What are my shipping options? +
Free ground shipping on all cutting boards within the US, via UPS, USPS, or FedEx. Upgraded shipping options are available at checkout.
Can I request a custom board? +
Yes! That's what commissions are for. Contact us via the Commission form (linked in Home & Boards pages), or call/e-mail us via the Service Page and we'll help you get a custom board designed and quoted.
Care & Maintenance
What finish do you use? Is it food-safe? +
We formulate our own blend of wax & oil compounds, Jack Wax. Every Wooded cutting board is treated with a heated coat Timber Tonic oil, and two coats of wax. All of these formulations are simple, food-safe mixes of beeswax, coconut oil and food-grade mineral oil. If you have a special finishing request, feel free to contact us via the Service page.
How do I care for my cutting board? +
Rinse with water and a mild soap or vinegar-based detergent after use — never put it in the dishwasher. Store it upright so air circulates on both sides. For occasional cooks, a coat & buff of Jack Wax Rapid Rub (or equivalent cutting board wax compound) will keep your board fresh and protected. For heavy duty chefs, we recommend oiling first, then waxing (see our Jack Pack).
Can I refinish or repair my board? +
Absolutely. Minor scratches and knife marks can be sanded out with fine-grit sandpaper. Then re-oil to hydrate the wood and re-wax to seal the surface. Our Jack Pack has everything you need to hydrate your sanded board and liven & protect it with wax!

What is your return policy? +
We don’t accept returns on non-defective boards — each one is a one-of-a-kind piece and a food-contact surface that we cannot typically resell. We stand behind our craftsmanship with a 90-day warranty covering defects like cracking or warping. We are a small business who deeply values our customers, so if you're having issues with our boards at any time, please reach out and we'll do our best to help.
